How it Works

How does a smencils fundraiser work?

Your group profits when participants sell Original Smencils to their friends and family.

How do we pay?

Since the product is ordered upfront, you have the following payment options:

  • Purchase order: If you're a public school, you can order without paying up front. A purchase order is a legally binding document between your group and us. Payment is due within 15 days of receipt of the product, giving you time to collect enough money to pay your bill. You then keep the rest as profit.
  • Credit card: We accept VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and PayPal.
  • Direct Deposit: You must provide your bank routing and account numbers. We will send you a form via a secure encrypted email to complete, sign, and return. Contact us

Order Original Smencils at a discounted price and then sell them at full retail. The difference is your profit.

Do you offer pricing discounts?

Yes, we offer volume discounts. For more information, see our 'Case Pricing' table at the top of the page.

How long is the fundraiser?

We recommend giving your sellers one week to sell their smencil allocation and turn in the money.

TIP: Use a tracking sheet to ensure timely and accurate money turn-in.

How many scented pencils should I order?

The size of your order depends on the number of participants in your group and how many smencils you want them to sell. Since Original Smencils come with ten inner buckets of 50 to the case, consider issuing 25 to each seller.

To determine how many cases to order, divide the number of participants in your group by 20. Round up to the following case number if needed.

Do you take back unsold products?

We do not accept returns.

TIP: Consider issuing unsold smencils to participants who volunteer to sell them in exchange for a portion of the profit. This way, you will maximize your profits as much as possible.

Can participants earn prizes?

We don't offer any prize programs with our Original Smencils fundraiser.

How much do smelly pencils sell for?

We suggest selling Original Smencils for $1 each.

How many smencils are in a case?

500. There are ten inner buckets of 50. Each bucket contains 5 of the ten scents.

Are smencils individually packaged?

Yes. Each smencil is a No.2 graphite pencil packaged in its recyclable plastic freshness tube.

Can scents be mixed in a case?

No. All scents are preselected, and cases cannot be broken up.

How long do scented pencils stay fresh?

Scents are guaranteed to last for two years.

How are smencils made?

Smencils are smelly pencils of typical thickness to wood pencils, only made from 100% recycled newspapers. Rolled newspaper sheets form around each core until the right pencil thickness results. Then they're hardened. This allows each smencil to be sharpened just like wooden pencils. Finally, we soak them with our gourmet liquid scents.

Making Sales

Is there a minimum order?

There is a 1-case minimum order requirement.

How much money can we make?

Estimating your profit is easy. Consider the following example.

A sponsor with 55 participants wants everyone to sell 25 smencils:

  1. 55 participants x 25 smencils / participant = 1,375 smencils
  2. 1,375 smencils ÷ 500 smencils / case = 2.75 cases (Roundup)
  3. 3 cases x 500 smencils / case = 1,500 smencils
  4. 1,500 smencils x $1.00 / smencil = $1,500.00 retail
  5. $1,500.00 x 40% profit = $600.00 profit

Orders ship within 1-2 business days. The time it takes to ship depends on your location from our warehouse.
