Unfortunately, peanut and nut allergies are common. Allergies to peanuts affect 1.5% of all children or more than 3 million Americans. The percentage of children with peanut allergies has tripled in the last ten years alone.
Severe allergic reactions that are potentially life-threatening are all too common. In response, school districts across the country are enforcing peanut-free policies.
Those who are allergic should avoid foods containing peanuts and peanut byproducts. This includes anything with a “may contain” or “may contain traces of” peanuts warning. Only products manufactured in a 100% peanut-free facility can carry a “peanut-free” label.
