2 Ways Popcorn Fundraiser Nutrition Makes a Difference

Learn how to sell the nutritional advantages of popcorn.

Sometimes finding a product that sells and offers additional benefits is challenging. For example, we all know that candy has always been a big money maker; however, it contains little, if any, nutritional value. Quite the opposite is true.

Candy is high in sugar and may contain unhealthy fat and unwanted calories that lead to weight gain. On the other hand, there's a reason that some groups may be considering a popcorn fundraiser besides the fact that it has a proven sales track record. In its basic form is an excellent source of dietary fiber, even though various components are added that can somewhat offset this benefit.

Still, not all popcorn is the same. Many companies, like Deanan® Gourmet Popcorn, have been using the same high-quality ingredients as a part of their family recipes for a long time. It stands to reason that anyone around that long must be doing something right. One such ingredient that offers health benefits that makes some popcorn products stand out is coconut oil.

1. Popcorn Fundraiser Products Offers Natural Nutrition

To pop our corn, we use coconut oil which contains no preservatives and is natural tropical oil. Although high in saturated fat, it's a non-hydrogenated oil with many health benefits. According to livestrong.com, the medium-chain fatty acids are quickly digested, producing energy instead of body fat and arterial plaque.

About 50 percent of the medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil is lauric acid, which strengthens the immune system and is also found in human breast milk. Caprylic and capric acid also contribute to coconut oil's antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties.

2. The Advantages of Coconut Oil Coloring

The coloring for our coconut oil is beta carotene which is an organic compound abundant in plants and fruits, giving a red/orange color. The body will convert beta-carotene to Vitamin A, which is good for vision and overall health.

It may be a stretch to say that our bagged popcorn is healthy, but at least there are some potential side benefits you may never have realized.

So, if you're looking for ways to promote your popcorn fundraiser, add the beneficial aspects to your list.
