Why you should sell beef jerky instead of candy.

So many groups offer prospective customers the same type of product that some organizations are attempting to differentiate themselves by offering something unique. They want an easy-to-sell product that will stand out to potential supporters.

Competition is especially fierce in the high school market because each campus has many groups trying to raise money. Organizations like Future Farmers of America have carved out a niche selling beef jerky, so can it also work for other groups?

Here are some reasons to consider it for your next sale:

Beef Jerky is Gaining in Popularity

A fairly recent Michigan State University article states that meat snacks have become increasingly popular and are a growing U.S. snack food market segment. According to the article, most beef jerky is consumed by men, but it’s also becoming more prevalent among women and children. It’s estimated that about 25% of American households purchase beef snacks consistently.

Meat Snacks are Nutritious

As opposed to a candy fundraiser, meat snacks offer a healthy alternative. Beef jerky is high in protein, supplies certain key vitamins and minerals, and is low in sugar and fat. This is an advantage as many school districts are enforcing stricter health policies.

The Sales Price is Right for Fundraising

Instead of selling items out of a brochure costing over $10, beef jerky sells for $1-2 each. This makes it affordable to a wider customer base. Since students like to sell to other students, meat snacks are convenient. Selling beef jerky is also easier because it tends to be an impulsive buy for the customer.
