How to Choose the Right School Fundraising Brochure

A popular question asked by schools when they first contact us to do a fundraiser is which brochure will sell the most? It's obvious they want to make the right choice that will help them maximize their sales.

Our most common response is any brochure is capable of selling well in a given area. There are several factors to consider when making sure you select the right school fundraising brochure.

Perhaps most important is having a solid belief in what you end up selling. You’re much more likely to push a program that you believe strongly in.

Here are some additional things you should consider:

Your Economic Conditions

What are the socioeconomic conditions of your specific area. For instance, you will want to consider a lower priced brochure if the average income of your area is lower than average.

Previous Fundraiser History

What has already sold well in your community? For example, if your school had success selling a specific brochure, you can simply look at your own history to help guide you. Or, perhaps another school had good results with another program a while back. You may also want to find out what made these programs successful.

On the other hand, you don't want to offer a brochure if another one just like it was recently sold in your immediate area. If you find out that another school is offering something similar, make sure that your sales don't overlap.

Buyer Interest

Ask around to see what people might be interested in purchasing. For example, you may find that people are getting tired of buying gift items. Perhaps cookie dough or frozen food might be the answer. Or, if you're a smaller group, perhaps discount cards or a custom school mug might be a refreshing change.

What about selection? Will people want more or less variety? Do people like to buy food or novelty items? If they want a large selection, then perhaps a gift item brochure is best. If however, you want to make a theme statement, then perhaps candles or flowers will work.

Once you've selected your brochure, it will be important to promote your sale in order to maximize your results.
